Meet LiverWife

I’m a wife, mother and grandmother but my biggest role is that of LiverWife. My journey as LiverWife began on March 7, 1996. At the time, I was enjoying the start of a career as a CPA, and life as a young married professional and mother of a five year old.

That day changed my life forever. I was on my way home from a work trip when my hubby called to say he was not feeling well and was wondering when I’d be home. On his way home from work, he threw up massive amounts of blood in his car while stopped at a stoplight. (He got some strange looks from the people in the car next to him.) My in-laws took my hubby to urgent care and I met them at the local ER where the ambulance took him from the urgent care because his blood pressure was very low.

My husband was calmly explaining to the ER docs that he was sure that what he threw up was the strawberries he had for breakfast. It was a few years before he would eat strawberries again.

It was hard to comprehend what was happening. In the 10 years I had dated and been married to Larry, he had never been sick. Now my husband was getting a blood transfusion and a doctor was telling me that my husband had serious liver disease and was facing a future liver transplant. Thus began my journey as LiverWife, caregiver and advocate for my husband.
